Sargans Castle, Sarganserland Museum

Sargans Castle is home to the Sarganserland Museum and offers impressive views, a historic restaurant and a cellar. It is an important testimony to Sargans' history and a popular excursion destination.
It embodies the county and the varied reigns of the federal bailiffs, making it the proudest witness to Sargans' local history. In 1899, the local community of Sargans bought the dilapidated building and saved it from final decay through numerous renovations.
Today, the old count's castle houses the "Sarganserland Museum" alongside the "Sargans Castle Restaurant" with its historical rooms. In 1983, it was the first Swiss museum to receive the "Museum of the Year" award from the Council of Europe and in 1987 it was included among the 37 most worthwhile museums in the world to visit.
The magnificent view, the museum, the restaurant, the secluded castle courtyard and the wonderful Torkel cellar with its ancient wine press make a trip to the former seat of the bailiwick an unforgettable experience.
