Älplibahn Malans

The Älplibahn Malans is the smallest mountain railroad in Graubünden and covers more vertical meters without an intermediate station than any other railroad in Switzerland. The view from the mountain station at 1,802 m above sea level is impressive.
The Älplibahn valley station is located above the Malans vineyards. The smallest mountain railroad in Graubünden carries 8 people per trip. Built by the military in 1941, the aerial tramway covers more vertical meters without an intermediate station than any other railroad in Switzerland.
There is a mountain restaurant at the top station at 1,802 meters above sea level, from whose terrace visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the Chur Rhine Valley and the Grisons and Glarus Alps.
Numerous hikes start from here, for example up the Vilan, which can be climbed in around 2 hours.
Both the cable car and the mountain restaurant are run and operated by an association and numerous volunteers.
As the Älplibahn is very popular and can only transport 32 people per hour, all train rides must always be reserved.
