Pizol area

The Pizol area offers the easternmost outcrops of the Glarus Verrucano and the Glarus Thrust. The Pizol glacier is suffering from rising temperatures, but older glacier traces are well preserved in the Wildsee area.
The easternmost outcrops of Glarus Verrucano and the Glarus Thrust are located in the Pizol region. It falls from over 2700 m.a.s.l. in the Pizol saddle area to the north in the Wangs area below the valley floor. The Pizol Glacier still exists, but it is suffering greatly from the rising temperatures. Older traces of the glacier such as glacial striations and scrapes, moraine walls and gravel plains in the Wildsee area are beautifully preserved.
