Waterfalls in spring

Together, the tiny drops are so powerful that they form thousand-year-old rocks: Waterfalls have always fascinated people. They are among the most popular photo motifs in landscape photography. Because the waterfalls are particularly full of water in spring, we have added a hiking tip for each waterfall.

#1 Seerenbach Falls

One of the highest waterfalls in Europe is located in Betlis on Lake Walen. From a viewing platform, you have the best view of the gigantic water spectacle. The Seerenbach Falls are around 600 meters high in total. The middle of the three cascades alone measures 305 meters. This makes it one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in the world. Tip: shorten the hike and take the Walensee boat to Betlis.

#2 Berschner case

The Berschnerfall is a real insider tip. It is well hidden in the forest above Berschis. Just getting there is an experience in itself. The hiking trail leads along the Berschnerbach stream, which flows through the gorge on the right-hand side. The louder it gets, the closer you are to the Berschner Falls. Suddenly you are standing right in front of the huge volume of water. There is a wooden bridge in front of the waterfall. This is as close as you can get to the waterfall. Tip: Don't forget your rain jacket if it has rained in the days before.

#3 Ragnatscherbach waterfall

The spectacular waterfalls of the Ragnatscherbach stream are visible from afar. They flow over sandstone into the valley near Mels. The Palfries cable car offers a unique view of the waterfalls. The former military cable car hovers above the falling water, which comes down in large masses, especially in spring when the snow melts or after heavy rainfall.

#4 Murgbach waterfall

A special spectacle awaits you at the Murgbach waterfall: the rock faces over which the water plunges are made of Verrucano rock, which glows red and sometimes even purple. This makes the lush green of the surroundings stand out even more. Not far from the waterfall is the largest chestnut forest north of the Alps, where the famous chestnut trail is signposted.

#5 Saarfall

The Saar Falls in Vilters are not only beautiful to look at, they are also really refreshing. However, jumping into the cool water is only for the hardy, as the Saar has its source in the Pizol region and brings a lot of meltwater in spring. Right next to the falls there is a barbecue area and secluded benches with a direct view of the water.
